Donna Gardecki Sensei

Our classes are taught by Shihan Donna Gardecki who has a Masters of Science in Physical Education. She started her Karate training in 1984 at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (Canada). Sensei Gardecki has reached the level of Go dan and has been awarded the title of Shihan.

Gardecki Shihan has been teaching Karate since 1992 and has been running her own club since March 1997. She also placed fourth at the third International Gojukai championships in Womens' (Advanced) Kata. And First place in Women's Masters Black Belt Kata in the 2007 Canadian National Karate Championships.

Shihan Gardecki works as a Fitness and Rehabilitation Consultant in the lower mainland. She was the Head Coach for the Canadian Team at the recent International Gojukai championships. Gardecki Sensei also serves on the Technical committee for IKGA Canada which ensures that a high standard and consistent method of teaching is maintained at all the IKGA member dojo's.


Sensei Carlos Tesla-Mabe

Sensei Carlos Tesler-Mabe joined us from Calgary Gojukai where he trained and taught under Sensei Rob Richardson. Sensei Carlos has been training in Karate for over 18 years and holds the rank of 3rd Dan in the IKGA.


Sensei Kieran O'Doherty is a visiting instructor at West Coast Gojukai Karate. Sensei Kieran holds a PhD in Psychology and currently works as a researcher at the University of British Columbia.

Sensei Kieran started training Goju Kai in 1985 with Sensei John Edmond in the Midrand Dojo, South Africa. While still in South Africa, he graded to Sandan under Pikkas Windell Shihan and Johan van Niekerk Shihan. In 1998 Sensei Kieran moved to Adelaide, Australia, where he founded the University of South Australia Karate Club. His most recent grading was to the grade of Yondan (4th Dan) under Brian Mackie Kyoshi.
